Website
ranking and
positioning, also known as website search engine positioning, is the
most important key to your site's success. In
the
following
information you will find all the rules and tips you need to create web
pages that consistanttly rank well in the search engines such as
Google, Alta Vista, and any other search engine that use spiders to
rank your site.
This
information does
not apply to places like Yahoo, DMOZ or any other
directory.
As I just mentioned, these are not search
engines. They
are directories! They are reviewed by people. Your
success in
the directories depends on your ability to pay and learn what pleases
the editors of that directory. To find out more about directories you
can go to my section on free website promotions by clicking
here.
Right
now however,
we're talking about increasing your web site ranking.
How
do we do that?
The
fact of the
matter is that once you know the rules it is fairly easy to create
pages that will consistantly create high web site positioning. However,
website search engine positioning rules change faster than some people
change their underwear. OK, maybe it's not that bad. But the rules that
applied 3, 5 or 10 years ago are not the same rules that apply today.
I
see a day coming
very quickly that the only way you'll be able to even appear on the top
search engines will be with $$$$$$. In fact the majority of them are
like that today--right now! That's why I will focus on what works best
with engines like Google. By following these rules you will be able to
optimize your pages for the best website positioning whether you have
to pay to get in, or not.
Website
Ranking
Rule #1- If you're not
in the top 20
search results of the major search engines for the keywords that relate
to your site then your site is basically invisible to the world.
Website
Ranking
Rule #2 - The first
thing to understand
about website search engine positioning is that it works on a system of
supply and demand. Basically like every other business.
Website
Ranking
Rule #3 - The first
step to top 10 website
positioning is to find the best "keywords" or "keyword phrases" for
your site. That's easy right? No! Keep reading...
Website
Ranking
Rule #4 - The best
keywords are the
closest related keywords to your site (or what you do) that have the
least amount of competition (or number of pages that show up in the
results) and have
the highest amount of
people searching that exact keyword or phrase. That was a real mouthful
right? Please re-read this rule over and over until you understand that
there are three factors involved here and they are all extremely
important to great website positioning.
Website
Ranking
Rule #5 - The most
obvious keywords are
usually the BEST keywords to focus on for your site. NO, NO, NO!!! The
most obvious keywords are usually the WORST keywords to focus on
because everybody else is using them too! For example, let's
say
that you are trying to promote a site on birds. The most obvious
keyword is "bird" but when you enter a search on Google you get over
6,000,000 results. Good luck getting to the top of that list.
But
if you focus on
"pet bird" you only get 23,000 results. If you focus on "blue birds"
you only get 13,000 results. That may still seem like a lot to you but
actually these numbers are low and much easier to obtain great website
positioning.
You
may think that
since low numbers of search results are good then maybe your keyword
focus for your site should be "Jay's Bluebird Emporium." After all this
keyword phrase brings up only 9 results. This train of thought would be
incorrect because if you look closer at rule number 4, it also says "and
have the highest amount of
people searching
that exact keyword or phrase."
The
bottom line is
that even though there are hardly any results for "Jay's Bluebird
Emporium," there is even less people entering that key phrase for a
search. In other words--"0".
But
there are
11,110 searches per month for "pet bird" and 32,718 searches per month
for "blue birds." What do you think would happen to your traffic count
if your ranked in the top 3 results for these two key phrases? It would
go through the roof! So, the key is to...

Rule #8 - Follow rules
#1 through #7 to
get in the top ten at Yahoo, Google (The best and most widely used
search
engine), MSN, All the Web, Alta Vista and Lycos. Submit your site very
carefully to DMOZ and buy
your way into the
rest of the search engines.
Following
these
eight web site ranking rules will go a long way towards placing your
website in the top twenty results, for you targeted keywords, on most
of the top search engines today.
